2025 Expected to Be Super Season in 2A and 3A Texas High School Football

Already, there's disagreement over which are the best teams, and we have yet to see a single game played. Puttbeat has named Stamford, the 2024 runner-up, as it's preseason #1 in 2AD1, but Texas Football has Refugio in that spot whereas Puttbeat leaves the Bobcats totally out of its preseason Top 5 in the division.

By Saturday, August 30th, we should know which preseason rater had named the best teams in a well-reasoned manner.

Stamford hosts Albany in its opener next Friday. Last Year the Bulldogs enjoyed the Albany home turf enough to reel off a 50-6 win. Even though Stamford is the host this year, the game should be close; for the Bulldogs lost several of their 2025 key players and Albany is usually super tough to beat; too, the Lions will be looking for a payback win.

Refugio does not return a proven quarterback. But if former running back, Ray Lewis (photo), makes the adjustment to quarterback with good success, Texas Football, could well be proven right by the end of the season. The Bobcats will have an experienced line and should be strong on defense and with their running game.

Last year's 2A1 champion, the Ganado Indians, will journey to Van Vleck to face the Leopards in their opener. But the Indians will not have Bryce Ullman, the quarterback who directed their title season. At quarterback, Landyn Artiga will do his best (Good luck, Landyn) to imitate Bryce, and he should be ably assisted by running back Logan Bures and wide receiver Austen Pepa. The Indians will again be directed by head coach Josh Ervin, who, in two short years, developed a fine reputation and became noted for his ability to develop young quarterbacks.

In 2024, Van Vleck presented one of Ganado's toughest opponents, falling to the Indians by but one touchdown, 33-26, in Ganado. Running back Logan Bures is expected to be the leading rusher, and the Indian defense should be led by Alesandro Quinones. Van Vleck lost several seniors from its 2024 team, but running back Daniel Williams returns, as does defensive tackle Porfirio Lopez, who will head up what should be a strong Leopard defense.
