The big stunner in th regional finals was East Bernard's 34-31 over Tidehaven, our season long #1 in the division. Also, Wall won impressively over Idalou, 48-7.
The one word that seems to sum up where the teams are going into the semis is: Equality. Any one of the teams is capable of defeating the others.
This week, Refugio will be strongly tested by Joaquin, which won convincingly over a very good San Augustine squad. In 3A 1, Yoakum is still in the hunt, surprisingly, having defeated the title defenders, the Columbus Cardinals. Along with Refugio, teams familiar with being on the verge of another title at this juncture are: Shiner, Grandview and Newton.
The semi-final matchups, with the Refugio vs. Joaquin contest being the only one to date with a set playoff site. Other times and locations will be posted as they become available:
