Great Sports and Good Sense #3

ree

Who among us would not like to be able to convince others to agree with our thinking? Few, if any. For we would like to believe that we can persuade others to accept our views/

But realistically, we know that we seldom accomplish that feat. Other people normally make up their own minds or else, agree with those nearest them. The further removed we are from other people, the more likely it will be that our influence on them is next to nothing.

However, can we do better? Actually convince others that our viewpoints are the correct ones? I trust we can. For I know that, however rarely, other people do care about what I think and when they care enough, they may be influenced by what I say and do.

The first essential of persuasion is to be a person worthy of trust and emulation. If we are crooks or less than honest, there's no good reason why anyone should follow us.

Secondly, we must be confident in what we know. A key question we must ask ourselves is whether we have done the studying and research necessary for us to really know what we're talking about.

Study, correct, make additions as needed, show that you can both persuade and be persuaded by solid information and sound arguments.
