Marlin Bulldogs, A Surprise Quarterfinalist in 2AD1

Among the many surprises in the 2024 Tx HS playoffs, none stands out more than the Marlin Bulldogs win over Mason, to advance to face Ganado, a 14-6 Regionals winner over Refugio, on Thursday night, Dec. 5, in San Marcos with a game start-time of 7:00 pm.

The Bulldogs have had significant contributions by several players to earn their 10-3 record, but the decisive move last spring of DC Jeff Rogers into the head football coach position has proven to be extraordinarily successful. This is the first year for Rogers to work in the Marlin program. Previously, he has been an assistant at Lexington, Groesbeck and Navasota. Also, early on, he spent a year as HC at Vanderbilt Industrial.

The Bulldogs will encounter Ganado with three losses to go with their 10 wins in 2024: Early on they lost to Lexington and Honey Grove; then to West--with all three of the winners also having strong 2024 seasons.
