Refugio (5-1) Heavy Favorite Over Unbeaten Santa Maria

Updated: Oct 11

"Good sports build a better world"

The Bobcats travel deep into the Rio Grande Valley on October 11th, to face the unbeaten Santa Maria Cougars.

Perhaps surprising to the uninformed, the Bobcats are heavy favorites. Why? Well, the Bobcat loss to a very good 3AD2 team, the Edna Cowboys, counts for more than do Santa Maria's wins, which include recent shutouts of Woodsboro and Riviera. Also, the Bobcats have a much stronger winning tradition in Texas high school football.

The Bobcats are led by senior running back Jordan King (photo left), who is averaging close to 300 yards rushing per game. The Santa Maria attack depends heavily on the abilities of junior running back Daniel Martinez. (2nd photo).

Three Rivers (6-0) is the only other team without a loss in District 16 of 2AD1; and the Bulldogs are expected to continue their perfect record until they clash with Refugio on Nov. 8, to close out the regular season.
