Several of Our Top 5 Teams in 2A/3A May Fall in Week 1

In 3AD1, only #5 Malakoff travels, to West Rusk; the other four in our Top 5 for this division open 2025 at home.

Meanwhile, all of our Top 5 in 2AD1 travel in their openers. In 2AD2, only #1 Muenster and Albany begin at home. Most of the 20 games will be played on Friday, August 29.; however, Garrison's first game will not be until a week later, on Sept. 5. Gunter travels to Kinkaid on August 28.

Perhaps the most competitive first-week matchup will see Stamford aiming to defeat Albany on the Lions' home turf. Also, Shiner vs Hallettsville should be a humdinger.

Unranked Refugio welcomes Cotulla on Aug. 29th; PB will not be surprised if the Bobcats make a quick return to the rankings; the Mason Punchers may well do the same. Both Refugio and Mason are usually ranked in the preseason, and then, throughout the remainder of a season. In fact, Texas Football already has Refugio at the #2 spot in its preseason rankings. PB has taken into account that #1 Jason Herring may be the AD, but he no longer is the Refugio head football coach and #2) the Bobcats lost their power runner and do not have a proven quarterback.
