The Sunray Bobcats have been an almost forgotten but serious contender for the 2AD1 Txas state football title in 2024.

Last year, playing in 2AD2, the Bobcats were 12-3 and made it to the semifinals before losing to ALBANY.34-14 in a semifinal.

Muleshoe native Wes Boatmun is the Sundra AD and head football coach. in his fourth year at that position.  Previously he was the defensive coordinator and before that also coached for Muleshoe.

Boatman’s wife, Erin, is the superintendent of the Sunray school district.

To date, the closest Sunray game has been a 30-28 win over Hooker Ok, to open the season. Senior quarterback Armando Lujan heads the Sunray attack; in 2023 Armando had an incredible season with 61 touchdowns passing and 21 rushing.

But just to win District 1 the Bobcats must defeat Panhandle, also a strong contender for the state title.

Sunray and Panhandle face one another the week of October 25. in Sunray.
