The Art of Reading, It's Not What, It's How

THE UPROAR (in some cases it is just that) against allowing students to read certain books is, in my judgment, 5he prohibition regarding books is in gross error. It's not what you read, it's how you read that counts

Smut does not in and of itself lead to moral decay; good readers are actually turned off by material that is too explicit sexually (they are much too romantic to be stunned or offended by pornography
But you don’t absorb a good book simply by opening it.  A lot of people open the the Bible and have not the vaguest idea of how it came to me and what are the many life affirming (read sexually-affirming) stories it contains.

Good readers understand what they are reading and are able to reflect upon what they read.   If, for example, a good reader is closely perusing a love story, he or she inquires of it as it applies personally, if the love expressed is real, fake or ugly.  I must be real for you!

Reading well is just that; it is a wellness undertaking.   Properly done, you understand yourself and things you never hard of before and you are astonished, amazed, and grateful.

Sure, its true that there’s a certain kind of entertainment when reading vulgarity;  “I can’t believe he said that!”   Or, “What exactly are they doing in that position?   When a piece of literature stirs your sexual inquiry, indeed, it is exciting, maybe even enough to share, or apply what is being learned..   But if ou read well; you are constantly asking yourself what the literature that you arer fixating upon is giving youdoe a better understanding of life.    Reading well, you are continuously  making value observations, such as, I like the way he said or did that to her or, Wow! I never understood that before!

The irony in the Back to the Bible movement is that the Bible is itself repet with secuality.of It tells many stories about how humans are physically attracted to one another; it contains explicit descriptions of sexual acts.  But in all, the Bible is a good book because it is essentially a wellness book, giving insights into how to live the best possible life, which, without exception, is thr life that has plenty of room to serve the humankind.

So, my advice to readers who may even now have before them a book containing extremely explicit language and illustarations.   My advice: "Read well, my friend.  Read well.”

Also, take a few moments and reflect upon these opening verses o the Biblical Song of Songs:
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth— for your love is more delightful than wine.3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;  your name is like perfume poured out.    No wonder the young women love you! 4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!    Let the king bring me into his chambers.
