The Puttway to Heaven and to success as a minister

Writer: Andy PateAndy Pate

MODESTY HAS never seemed to me to be a desirable trait for a minister. Adversity comes every pastor's way, daily if not hourly; and "I don't know what to do" is not a fitting response.

Nonetheless, I shall here put into print, for history if not for our readers, the four steps that have worked for me.

#1) Every pastor must know the Bible in and out. and especially know the Truths of the OT prophets and, of course, the essential teachings of Jesus, Paul and a handful of others/

Ignorance of the Bible still runs rampant in our society and, for that matter, in our world. Too many among us still think the earth is only about 6,000-years-old and that around Day 3 God suddenly gave Moses the whole of the Old Testament.

Also, too many among us still hold to the lie that if you have not gone "under the water," you will never make it to Heven.

#3_Further, it is paramount that a minister be active in the community. Attending games and other high school events--these and their like are not optional activities--they are musts.

#4) And finally. every successful minister must be "saved."' He or she must believe wholeheartedly in the Truth of what he or she preaches. I call this being "baptized by the Holy Spirt."

Which, from time to time, I firmly believe has been true for me.
