I'm not interested here in writing about the successful, or about the famous, or even, about the most talented among us. No, I write here about the strong, or more specifically, the morally strong.
Our modern way of thinking, especially among us so-called Christians, has turned faith upside-down, made it a matter of worldly success in material things rather than about the kind of life that is forever centered on the well-being of the humankind
The news media has not helped to present a faith that is right-side up. Rather, the media have mostly fallen in love with the rich and the famous, even those media who have become so through Christian misinterpretations of their faith. And our churches themselves and their chief representatives have all-too easily gone along; for they too have interpreted faith as a means to safety, security and prosperity.
Thus, it stands to reason. We're on a path that ultimately leads to nowhere. For worldly success does not satisfy and surely does not last very long.
The Christian minister who thinks otherwise is usually not well-known, if known at all; nor is he or she the recipient of the kind of applause that praises those who do their jobs rightly and well.
Real followers of the Way of Christ are those who surrender the desires for human things and substitute those desires with helpful service to Christ on behalf of those who cannot help themselves.
Sadly, even I cannot speak boldly about how much I have given up worldly desires for the sake of worldly success. For you see, I, too, am a product of modern times.
I know better. But are there enough around of the morally responsible to save us? No, not if we think of them as being like me and typical Americans. But there ae a few, thank God. And it is they who will save us and lead us with their following of Christ.
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
