Four Teams That Are Emerging as Serious Contenders in 2024

Updated: Sep 25, 2024

Beckville 2AD1  has been making increasingly loud noises in each of the seasons since Cody Ross was named the head football coach in 2018.  Now in his sixrh season, Ross's Bearcats have sounded the alarm that they are for real.  A relatively young team, the Bearcats are 4-0, with two of their toughest district foes coming up ever so quickly. They face always tough Elysian Fields (4-0) this Friday, then on the following Thursday go against Big Sandy (3-1).

Another team similarly on the rise in 2aD2 is Miles, which town is about a 20-minute drive eastward from San Angelo. The Bulldogs of Miles are also 4-0. In Week 1, they downed preseason favorite Sonora,35-24, and followed that with an impressive defeat of Sterling City, 55-20.

In 3AD2, Jefferson has gotten off to a great start; their most impressive win is perhaps their 47-38 defeat of Newton. On September 20, they walloped Pittsburgh, 40-15. They meet Gladewater this week but later in the season must go against White Oak and Liberty-Eylau.

In 3A2, there has been no bigger 2024 surprise than the Lone Oak Buffaloes (4-0) under head coached Logan Turner, who has been in that position since 2020  Lone Oak downed Winona 27-0 in Week 2, then followed up with a 33-22 victory over a very good Big Sandy eleven.
