Lamesa high football fans are among the few in the state praying for strong winds to come their way, the “winds” like in winning, that is.
The Tornadoes are the only District 2 3AD! team with a win through week five. Brownfield, Denver City and Kermit have yet to win. having played 14 games. Lamesa's win (1-4) came over Dimmitt, 48-34. on Sept. 28th.
Perhaps the best thing that can be said about Lamas’s 2024 team is that it can score. It scored 27 against Littlefield, 42 against Muleshoe’s 74, 42 against Lake View, and 36 against Tulia. Efrain Ramos is the head football coach and athletic director, a move that was made a few months prior to the 2024,onset, with the resignation of Joseph Hood as head football coach.
Junior wide receiver Cyllius McCurley has scored 13 touchdowns. mostly via pass receptions from freshman quarterback Dainiel Ramos, who has thrown for a total of 19 touchdowns, very impressive.
Benio Barrios has added 5 rushing touchdowns. .
So it is that for the remainder of the season, playing district games mainly, how well the Tornadoes do will depend upon whether their defense can improve enough to take down the five remaining opponents. Clearly, the Tornados are going to put points up on the board
On October 4th, the Tornadoes host Roosevelt (4-1); it is a non-district clash.
