Columbus (7-1) lost by a single point to Hitchcock (7-1), 36-37, in District 12 of 3AD1; and Bushland (7-1) of District 1 3AD1 lost to Shallowater (6=2), also by a single point, 20-21.
Both wins were major upsets in as much as Columbus and Bushland have been top-ranked 3AD1 teams for most of the 2024 season.
The Cardinals of Columbus should be able to close out their district competition with two wins, against Hallettsville (3-5) and against Hempstead (0-9).
Also, Hitchcock’s chances of winning over Yoakum (5-3) in a non-district matchup are considered excellent.

In 3AD1 District 2, however, to end up (9-1) Bushland must claim a win over Amarillo River Road (4-5) and another over a very good team, Dalhart (7-1). Dalhart must also travel into Shall0water on Nov. 8.
To say the least, the 3AD1 District 1 race is close, and exciting to follow.
Regardless of how the remaining games play out, the district will be well represented in the playoffs.
Hitchcock is assured the #1 District 12 seed for the playoffs, with Columbus at #2 assuming, of course, that the Cardinals defeat Hallettsville on Nov. 1. Hallettsville and Hemphill are the other two of the district’s four teams.
