Newton Eagles Intent on Crown #5

When your #1 running back is but a sophomore and you're the head coach, you may be looking ahead a year or two. But not Newton HC Drew Johnston; he wants a fifth title for the high school now, in 2024; and hopefully, followed by another. (The Eagles last won the 3A2 title in 2017, defeating Gunter, 40-16.

In 2023 the Eagles were 11-1, losing to Daingerfield in the Area round. Daingerfield again poses a serious regional rival but so does Woodville of the Eagles own district.


Drew Johnston succeeded his dad (W. T.) in 2019. ”. Seven starters are back for the 2024 Eagles on both sides of the ball. Kendray Porter (#3) will look to better his stats from a year ago when he had over 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns. Hunter Williams a four-year starter on the offensive line will be opening the holes for Porter and Deldrick Samuel.

The Eagles welcome West Orange Stark into their stadium to open the 2024 season on Friday Night, August 30.
