Surely, they do not want the honor. But the Smyer Bobcats (0-8) appear to be headed for a season with no wins. As they prepare for their Friday game at Plains (4-4) that possibility appears to be in the making. In their final game of 2024 on Nov 8, the Bobcats will host Tahoka (6-2), which has already qualified (#2) for the playoffs.
A quick look at the Smyer’ scores to date suggests their main “overall” problem lies with their offense, which thus far has shown it is incapable of putting enough points on the board to win a game. In Week 4 they did score 20 points against Hale Center, who, on the winning end, scored 33; and that’s the closest it has been for a Bobcat victory.
Puttbeatis among the believers who say you learn when you lose, perhaps more than when you win. How? Well, for one, losing makes it urgent for you to know what went wrong and what you can do better that might enable you to win.
Scott Funke has been the Smyer head football coach since 2019. The Bobcats best season (recent) was 8-4 in 2020; they were 1-9 in 2023.
