The Best of the Worst?

“Good sports make for a better world

PUTTBEAT aims to keep its word. In the preseason we said we would, from time to time, report on the teams not doing so well and maybe should be or ought to be doing better?  Here is a timely example:

The Forsan Buffaloes of District 3 in 2AD1.

The Buffaloes are 0-6 as they prepare to host Colorado City (2-4) for game #7 on their 9-game schedule; they had an off week on October 11.

Actually, the Buffaloes played well in their first three games, but the “close” losses they suffered did their job; they deflated the Buffalo will, and since the team has lost to Wink, 46-6. to Ropes, 44-0, and to Sonora,52-0.

After this week’s contest against Colorado City, Forsan closes out the season against Christoval (2-4) followed by facing once-beaten Reagan County at home.

“Keep your chins up” doesn’t appear to be very helpful advice to give to the Buffaloes at this point.  (They’ve been doing that aplenty.)   Nor does “Wait till next year”.   There are still 3 games left on the football calendar and plenty more athletic contests for the Buffaloes between now and next June.

To win again the losing mindset must be cleared up.  Now!  Not later.

Puttbeat does not publish in order to hand out advice.  But we will point out what we think FORSAN High School and the Forsan community need to be reminded of:  #1) Winning is an attitude; 2) Game outcomes are school and community wide, not just affecting the losing team; and 3) Regroup, take stock, and encourage the coaches and players; give them some ”tough love”, as the saying goes.

Go, Buffaloes!   Your school, your community, your state and all supporters of the best in high school athletics—we’re all behind you, regardless!
